The Word Became Flesh: Weekend Retreat
Theme: THE WORD BECAME FLESH. And the word became flesh and dwelt among us full of grace and truth and we beheld his glory is John’s shockingly earthy Advent proclamation to us. Christianity has one of the highest valuations of body and embodied/incarnated presence of God of all religions, yet tragically much of Christianity has become disembodied over the centuries. In this retreat we will open ourselves to reclaiming our richly embodied Christian spirituality, tradition and practice—in ourselves, our communities and world. We will seek, by faith to enter more deeply and holistically into the reality of God making God’s home in and among us in Jesus. Praying with Body and Heart (yoga and meditation) will be offered each morning for those who wish to participate.
Leader: Jim Dickerson is pastor of New Community Church and chairman of Manna, Inc. in Washington, DC.
General Information: Weekend retreats run Friday dinner through Sunday lunch. The silence begins Friday night after dinner when the leader opens the retreat and introduces the theme.
