Multifaith Day, Sunday June 27: Buddhism
Theme: The afternoon program will include a talk on the Buddhist practice of mindfulness and how it can help us alleviate stress and tension, and cultivate joy and inner peace. The leader will then lead a guided 30-minute mindfulness meditation, which will be followed by time for personal meditation practice (walking and sitting). We will close with a time of sharing and a brief period for questions and discussion.
Leader: Hugh Byrne, PhD is a senior teacher with the Insight Meditation Community of Washington (IMCW). He is a co-founder of the Washington Buddhist Peace Fellowship and the Mindfulness Training Institute of Washington. He teaches classes on Buddhism and meditation for the Smithsonian Resident Associate Program and leads weekly classes in Washington, DC.
