Theme: ENGAGED BUDDHISM. Meditation practice is often misunderstood as a “disengagement” from life. However, quite the reverse is true: the way to dissolve our resistance is to meet it face to face. Engaged Buddhism, a term coined by Vietnamese Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh, refers to the social application of Buddhist teachings, as they bring us into responsible relationship with the world around us. This day we will explore the connection between individual practice and the alleviation of suffering for all beings.
Leader: Luisa Montero has led retreats and a weekly meditation class for the Insight Meditation Community of Washington. Luisa is currently the Managing Director of the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers.
